Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 2 years of relevant experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • 36-bed Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit within a Level I Trauma teaching hospital
  • 874 licensed bed facility with Magnet designation, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center
  • Patient population includes sepsis, respiratory illness, GI disorders, infections, liver failure, and AKI/CKD cases
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:5-6 based on acuity, with surge staffing potentially increasing to 1:7-8
  • CNA to patient ratio of 1:9
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating required within region and scope of practice to other facilities as needed
  • Charge nurse coverage 24/7, RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist support available 24/7
  • No dedicated telemetry monitoring tech; nurses read and respond to monitors
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Experience with cardiac rhythm interpretation, stroke care, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, and NGT placement required
  • Experience managing drains and tubes including Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, and foley catheters required
  • Experience with medication drip management including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids required
  • PCA pump experience required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive medical/surgical and telemetry nursing care to an adult patient population
  • Manage medication drips, drains, tubes, and cardiac monitoring as part of daily patient care
  • Support staff includes CNAs, receptionist/HUC, 24/7 charge nurse, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, IV/VAT team, and resource nurse as available
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Must work 75% of holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the contract
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking available
  • First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
  • Traveler's permanent address must be at least 50 miles outside the home unit; local candidates not accepted
  • Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
  • If floating mid-shift, travel time between facilities is paid
