Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center, requiring 2+ years of Med/Surg experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Work in the Admission Holding unit of a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center with 885 licensed beds
  • 20-bed unit split between 5A and 5B
  • Transitional Care Unit treating general Med/Surg patients including CHF, COPD, kidney/liver/GI/respiratory issues, CIWA patients, infections, and wounds
  • Mostly medical patients, though any service line may admit including general surgical cases
  • Patient ratio of 1:5
  • Support staff includes CNAs on each pod, a charge nurse, 24/7 phlebotomy, RT, hospitalist, and resident coverage
  • Bedside telemetry monitors with central monitoring at the nurses' station
  • EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
  • 12-hour night shifts (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • 50% holiday coverage required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • May float within scope of practice throughout the hospital

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
  • Minimum 12 months of core experience in the specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Skills required: trach care, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and central line blood draws
  • Experience with non-titrating drips required: Heparin, Lasix, Protonix
  • Experience with non-titrating drips preferred: Cardizem, Amiodarone
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

  • Opportunity to check off on cardiac rhythm strips during shifts
  • Orientation includes NEO and 2 shifts on the unit

  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible
  • Candidates must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year if previously in a permanent position
