Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center, requiring a NC or compact RN license and 1 year of relevant experience.

Details

• Work on an 8-bed Medical/Surgical Overflow unit within a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center
• Patient population includes general medical cases with some cardiac, pneumonia, UTI, chest pain, and fluid overload diagnoses
• RN to patient ratio of 1:4 and CNA to patient ratio of 1:8
• 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700) with 36 standard hours per week
• Every other weekend (EOW) rotation required
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Floating may be required to Rehab, 4 Ardmore, 10 Reynolds, 9 Reynolds, 5 Ardmore, Burn-10 North, or Throughput Unit
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing system
• Telemetry monitors are available on the unit; RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting rhythm strips during shift
• Unit-specific equipment includes PCAs, trachs, and complex wound care supplies
• 24/7 support available from Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalists, and Intensivists
• Peripheral blood draws performed by phlebotomy; RNs are responsible for starting their own IVs

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 1 year of recent core experience in Med/Surg Tele or related specialty area
• Travel experience preferred
• Skills required include PCA management, surgical drain care, wound care, and telemetry/cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Comfort with or willingness to learn Cardizem/Amiodarone drip administration
• Epic EMR experience required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to general medical and cardiac patients requiring telemetry monitoring
• Charge nurse is typically free-floating but may occasionally carry a full patient assignment
• CNA support includes vital signs, blood glucose checks, hourly safety rounds, and assistance with ADLs
• Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Unit culture is described as friendly and academic
• Royal blue scrub color required

• Holiday coverage required for 75% of designated holidays
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for the travel pay rate
• Candidates must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year if previously employed in a permanent position
