Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN - Med/Surg Tele for a 12-hour night shift contract requiring 18 months of MedSurg experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Post Surgical Care unit within a Trauma Level III teaching hospital with 457 licensed beds
  • 28-bed unit caring for orthopedic, spine, trauma, vascular surgery, and medical overflow patients
  • RN patient ratio of 1:4-6, with surge times up to 1:7-8
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation on a 6-week schedule cycle
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • EMR: EPIC
  • Equipment includes BD Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips/Massimo monitors
  • Floating required within Region 1 facilities (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division) as needed and within scope of practice

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Minimum 18 months of MedSurg RN experience required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Skilled in post-surgical care including incision care, drains, chest tubes, wound care/wound vacs, trach care, NG tube insertion, and use of braces/traction
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide post-surgical nursing care including assessment, mobility support, and patient education
  • Unit is undergoing recertification for Advanced Certification for Spine Surgery, and travelers are expected to participate with management support provided
  • Support available from CNAs, charge nurses, IV/VAT team, mentors, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, remote telemetry monitoring, house supervisors, patient safety attendants, BERT, and Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Expected to work 75% of holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays, with contract extension required if contracted hours are not met
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Positive and supportive unit culture with free designated parking
  • First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
  • Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility to qualify for the travel position
  • Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after a permanent position before reapplying
