Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 18 months of Med/Tele experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Work in a 23-bed Medical Nursing unit with an average daily census of 21 patients
• Trauma Level III, teaching hospital with Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence designations
• Patient population includes chest pain, rule out stroke, syncope, dizziness, respiratory illness, and a variety of diagnoses
• RN to patient ratio of 1:4-5
• 12-hour night shifts, 1900-0700, 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation required every other weekend
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Schedule cycle rotates every 6 weeks
• Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing system
• Floating required within Region 1 (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH peds only) as needed based on staffing demands
• Travelers float first and may care for patients within scope of practice on other units

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• Current BLS and ACLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required for Resource Team assignments
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele experience required
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• Skills required include stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management), and PCA pump management
• Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IVF

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to Med/Surg Tele patients including monitoring, medication administration, and procedural support
• Support team includes a Supervisor, free-floating Charge RN, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Hospitalist coverage, IV/VAT Team, and combined RN/IV team phlebotomy support
• Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
• Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the assignment
• Navy scrub color required

• First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
