Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center, requiring telemetry skills and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Med/Surg overflow unit within a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center
• 8-bed unit with an average daily census of 8 patients
• General medical patient population with some cardiac, pneumonia, UTI, chest pain, and fluid overload cases
• RN to patient ratio of 1:4 and CNA to patient ratio of 1:8
• Telemetry monitors on the unit with RNs responsible for reading and interpreting rhythm strips
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
• 12-hour day shift schedule (0700-1900), 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Floating required to Rehab, 4 Ardmore, 10 Reynolds, 9 Reynolds, 5 Ardmore, Burn-10 North, and Throughput Unit

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Experience with PCA management, surgical drains, wound care, and telemetry/cardiac rhythm interpretation required
• Experience with Cardizem/Amiodarone drips preferred but not required if willing to learn
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care including telemetry monitoring, wound care, and PCA management on a busy med/surg overflow unit
• Supported by CNAs who assist with vitals, blood glucose checks, hourly rounding, and ADLs
• Charge nurse typically floats but may occasionally take a full patient assignment
• 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available on-site
• Peripheral blood draws performed by phlebotomy team; RNs start their own IVs
• Facility-wide new employee orientation plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Royal blue scrub color required
• Friendly, academic medical center unit culture
• Travelers will work 75% of holidays
• Travel experience preferred; first-time travelers may be considered on a case-by-case basis
• Local candidates within 50 miles are not accepted for this position
• Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before returning
