Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center, requiring 2 years of MST experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • 26-bed Med/Surg Tele unit within an 885-bed Level 1 Trauma academic medical center
  • General medicine patient population including DM, GI, respiratory, and renal cases with wound care, chest tubes, trachs, and lab draws
  • RN to patient ratio of 5-6:1 and CNA ratio of 8-9:1
  • 12-hour day shift schedule starting at 7 AM, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend (EOW) rotation required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating required to other Med/Surg units including 8 Reynolds, 8 North, 9 North A/B, ACE, 9 Ardmore, 10 Ardmore, and 8 North-B
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring with strip signing required each shift

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele experience required
  • Experience reading telemetry strips required
  • Experience with chest tubes, tracheostomies, PIV starts, drains, tubes, and PCA pumps required
  • Experience managing drips including Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, Dilaudid PCA, and Heparin
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills required
  • Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct and indirect patient care in a fast-paced Med/Surg Tele environment
  • Support includes CNAs, HUC/receptionist, occasional charge nurse coverage, rapid response team, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
  • Phlebotomy handles routine draws while RNs are responsible for STAT draws
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Unit culture is patient-centered, highly reliable, and team-oriented
  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • Free employee parking provided
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • First-time travelers considered with a strong Med/Surg background
  • Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible
  • Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
