Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring telemetry strip interpretation skills and a WV or compact RN license.

Details

  • Float pool role within MedSurg/Tele units in an acute care Level 2 trauma hospital
  • Primarily floats to 6N (36 beds) and 7N (29 beds), with occasional floats to 4N, 5S, 6S, and Critical Care
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:5-6, with occasional 1:7 depending on acuity
  • Common diagnoses include CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, ortho, and oncology
  • Phillips telemetry monitors used; most units have monitor techs but RNs must read and interpret strips
  • RNs are not required to titrate drips
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
  • Every-other-weekend requirement (Sat/Sun)
  • Holiday coverage required as part of the rotation with permanent staff
  • Report to the clinical coordinator's office prior to shift start for unit assignment
  • Likely assigned a 'parent unit' and only basic telemetry patients within scope of practice

Requirements

  • Active WV or compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience required
  • Must pass a cardiac rhythm exam upon hire
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred
  • Copy of unexpired driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Care for patients requiring telemetry monitoring, CPAP, and BiPap (RT manages respiratory equipment)
  • CNAs are utilized on all units to support patient care
  • Charge nurse available on every unit; night charge nurse takes a patient assignment
  • 1-2 shifts of orientation provided with a preceptor
  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify as a traveler
  • Cancellation policy allows for 2 shifts per 13-week contract
  • Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
  • Travelers may not work within WVU Medicine facilities for longer than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
