Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment in a Staff Float Pool at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring at least 18 months of MedSurg/ICU experience and Cerner or EPIC proficiency.

Details

  • Staff Float Pool position within a Med/Surg unit at a 492-bed Level I Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center
  • May be assigned to units including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, MedSurg/Oncology, Orthopedics, or MS/Ortho/Urology
  • Patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on unit
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a, on a 36/48 schedule
  • Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month)
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating required to like units (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds, or ICU equivalents)
  • EMR: Cerner required; EPIC experience will be considered
  • Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
  • Telemetry monitored by techs, but RNs required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours

Requirements

  • Active RN license (AL or Compact) required
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience required
  • Cerner experience required if candidate has strictly ICU background
  • Skills may include wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV starts, trach care, PEG, ostomy care, and medication administration depending on assigned unit

Additional Information

  • Assigned a home unit on first day of orientation
  • New-to-facility or returning travelers (gone 1+ years) receive 24 hours classroom orientation and 24 hours on-unit training
  • Support staff typically includes CNAs, charge nurses, HUC/receptionists, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalists
  • One major and one minor seasonal holiday coverage expected per policy
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved in advance, excluding facility blackout dates
  • Scrubs of any color permitted
  • Free parking available in designated parking deck levels
  • First-time travelers will be considered
  • Previous staff must wait 6 months from last shift worked before returning as a traveler
  • Candidates must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility
