Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to a diverse Medical/Surgical patient population, including patients with sepsis, COPD, bowel obstructions, CHF, and other acute medical conditions.
- Maintain a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5.
- Assess patients, develop and implement individualized nursing care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes.
- Administer medications and treatments safely according to physician orders and facility protocols.
- Titrate Insulin and Heparin drips as ordered and monitor patients for therapeutic response and adverse effects.
- Monitor patients receiving telemetry; ability to interpret cardiac rhythms is preferred.
- Monitor vital signs, neurological status, intake/output, pain, and other clinical indicators.
- Provide care for patients requiring CPAP and established BiPAP therapy.
- Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate healthcare team.
- Collaborate with physicians, CNAs, respiratory therapists, and other interdisciplinary team members.
- Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, and discharge instructions.
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses in EPIC.
- Follow infection-control, patient-safety, and hospital policies and procedures.
- Work weekends and holidays as required.
- Be available to float as the first-to-float nurse when required.
- Travelers may be required to float among Region I facilities, including St. Anne Hospital in Burien, Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, and St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way.
- Adapt to different units and patient populations while maintaining safe and effective nursing care.
Requirements Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current Washington State RN license; license must be available for submission. AHA BLS certification required. 2+ years of related nursing experience preferred. BSN preferred but not required. Strong Medical/Surgical nursing experience. Experience caring for patients with complex medical diagnoses such as sepsis, COPD, CHF, and bowel obstructions preferred. Experience with Insulin and Heparin drips, including titration. Ability to care for patients requiring CPAP and established BiPAP. Ability to read telemetry strips is preferred. Strong assessment, critical-thinking, communication, and time-management skills. Must be willing to work 12-hour night shifts (6:00 PM–6:30 AM). Must be available for weekends and holidays as needed. Must be willing to float throughout Region I when required. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced acute-care environment. Must be willing to participate in a manager interview/clinical profile review. Professional scrub colors are acceptable; no specific color requirement is listed. Must be able to chart efficiently in EPIC.
