Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg unit in a Level 1 trauma academic hospital, requiring 2+ years of experience and NE or compact licensure.

Details

• Med/Surg unit with 28 beds in an acute care, academic teaching hospital
• Patient ratio of 1:5-6 with nurse aide support at 1:10-14
• Common diagnoses include cardiology, surgical oncology, urology, and complex general med/surg cases
• Telemetry monitoring on unit with centralized monitoring techs; RNs read basic strips
• Respiratory equipment includes nasal cannula (<6L if acute) and trach collar
• Uses Epic EMR
• 12-hour night shifts with self-scheduling, subject to manager unit balancing
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required per skill level
• No on-call or standby requirement
• No titration of drips required by RNs

Requirements

• Active RN license, State or Compact (NLC), required at time of submission
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Must be willing to precept and teach in an academic institute setting
• Able to care for a wide variety of patient types
• Driver's license required to confirm residence location
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg unit within a Level 1 trauma, academic teaching hospital
• 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation provided
• Pass/Fail skills exam given on the Friday of orientation; open book with resources provided, 90% passing score required
• Navy blue scrubs required per dress code
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
• Holiday coverage required with no RTO approved over holidays
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates may not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
• First-time travelers may be considered
