Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position requiring an active Maine or compact RN license and BLS certification.

Details

  • Hospital-based Med/Surg unit caring for adult patients
  • Night shift schedule from 7p-7a
  • 13-week assignment
  • Facility reserves the right to cancel up to 3 shifts within a 12-week period

Requirements

  • Active Maine RN license or compact license required
  • Minimum 1 year of recent nursing experience required
  • Current BLS certification required, ACLS preferred
  • BSN preferred
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills required
  • Nursing assessment knowledge across all age groups required
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, stoop, bend, reach, and lift up to 30 lbs
  • Ability to push patients in wheelchairs and stretchers
  • Sufficient visual and hearing acuity to assess patients
  • Documentation of immunizations required, including varicella, Hepatitis B, MMR, Tdap, and PPD or equivalent titers
  • Flu vaccination required during flu season

Additional Information

  • Perform initial and ongoing age-appropriate nursing assessments and reassessments
  • Develop and implement individualized plans of care based on patient needs and physician orders
  • Communicate patient status and care updates to healthcare team members
  • Administer medications following the five rights of medication administration and evaluate patient response
  • Provide patient and family education, including discharge planning and follow-up calls
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and bedside rounding with hospitalists and case managers
  • Maintain a safe physical environment and ensure equipment is in proper working order
  • Support hospital-wide quality improvement initiatives and report any service quality concerns
  • Participate in emergency/disaster preparedness planning and respond during real emergency events as needed
  • Report to Human Resources on first day for onboarding
  • Exposure to infectious diseases, blood borne pathogens, and hazardous chemicals possible in this role
