Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring 1 year of Med/Surg experience and EPIC EMR proficiency.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with 38 beds in a Level 3 trauma facility
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 for days and nights, with high patient turnover and frequent discharges/admissions
• Patient population includes older teens and adults with diagnoses such as pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, and respiratory illness
• Surgical patient population includes orthopedic (hip, knee, shoulder), general surgery (appendix, gallbladder, bowel), spinal surgery, and urology cases
• EPIC EMR used for documentation
• 3x12-hour day shifts, scheduled 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM
• Weekend and holiday coverage required on an as-needed basis
• Standby/call requirement limited to low census situations
• May float to IMCU for Med/Surg assignments
• 24/7 cardiac tech support, RNs not required to interpret own telemetry strips
• 24/7 nursing supervisor and charge nurse coverage on both shifts
• CNA support available at 1:8-1:10 ratio for vitals and accuchecks
• 24/7 respiratory therapy support with equipment including trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen

Requirements

• Active RN license (NE or Compact) required
• BLS certification (AHA or ARC) required
• CPI certification required
• Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg nursing experience required
• EPIC EMR documentation experience required
• Must be competent in titrating drips including Heparin, and administering set-rate drips such as Bumex and Lasix
• Must be able to safely manage a 1:6 patient ratio
• Experience with the specific shift applied for (days vs nights) preferred

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include bedside shift report, proactive patient rounding, and teamwork including assisting with call lights and supporting CNAs
• Unit/department-specific orientation consists of 1.5 shifts
• Navy blue scrubs required
• No self-scheduling available for travel RNs, though blocked scheduling may be accommodated at times
• Must reside within a 45-mile radius of the facility
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Cancellation policy allows for up to 3 shifts per 13-week assignment
