Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment in a Level I Trauma Center, requiring at least 18 months of MedSurg or ICU experience.

Details

  • 492-bed Level I Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center
  • Staff Float Pool MedSurg unit with home unit assigned on first day of orientation
  • Patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on unit
  • Possible units include 6 North Trauma Surgical, 5 South Neuroscience, 5 North MedSurg/Oncology, 3 South Orthopedics, and 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology
  • Patient populations vary by unit and include general surgery, vascular, neuro, oncology, orthopedic, and urology cases
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7pm-7am, on a 36-48 hour schedule
  • Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month)
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to like units (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/holds, ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task with limit of 3, ICU-ER/holds)
  • EMR: Cerner, with EPIC experience also considered
  • Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
  • Support staff includes CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalists, and telemetry techs
  • RNs required to interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings every 4 hours

Requirements

  • Active RN license (AL State or Compact) required
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum of 18 months MedSurg and/or ICU experience required
  • Cerner or EPIC EMR experience required; Cerner required if experience is strictly ICU
  • Unit-specific skills may include wound care, chest tubes, NGT, trach care, PEG, IV starts, ostomy care, and central line dressing changes
  • Telemetry experience preferred and should be disclosed if applicable
  • Chemo certification preferred for MedSurg/Oncology unit but not required

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care including turning, bathing, and ADL assistance in lower-ratio units
  • Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years will complete 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
  • Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
  • Scrub color is unrestricted
  • Schedule follows a 4-week cycle with no self-scheduling; uses Smart Square
  • Up to 7 days of time off may be approved in advance, excluding facility blackout dates
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Previous staff must wait 6 months after their last shift before returning as a travel employee
  • Candidates must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • Free parking available in designated parking deck levels
