Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Surgical Specialty Unit position requiring med-surg experience and understanding of post-operative care.

Details

• Surgical Specialty Unit (SSU) with 20 private beds
• Patient ratios of 4:1 total patient care, or 5:1 with a patient care tech support
• Unit typically staffed with 1 tech and 4-5 nurses on the floor
• Uses Alaris IV Pumps, CADD epidural, Alaris PCA, Pyxis Medication Dispensing, telemetry, EKG, bladder scanner, wound vacs, capnostream machines, and SCD pumps
• Documentation via MediTech
• 13-week assignment with 7P-7A shift schedule
• Scheduling includes every 3rd weekend plus two Mondays and Fridays per 4-week period
• Floating required to similar medical/surgical/telemetry units including ortho neuro center, med/tele, 4N, and CDU
• High-paced unit environment

Requirements

• Active KS or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of recent med-surg experience required
• Understanding of post-operative care required
• Experience with ostomy management and irrigation, NGT placement/management, Foley catheter placement/maintenance, central line management, JP drains, wound management, IV starts, blood administration, and nutritional supplementation (including TPN, G/J tubes)
• US SSN and DOB required for consideration
• One professional reference required

• Facility recognized as a Center of Excellence in Colorectal and Robotics and MBSAQIP certified in Bariatric surgery
• Unit received HCA Unit of Distinction for Med-Surg in 2021
• Required uniform of royal blue tops with black or royal blue bottoms
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility; no local candidates accepted
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
