Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN for a night shift position requiring 1 year of specialty experience and BLS/NIHSS certification.

Details

• 36-bed Med/Surg unit with patient ratios of 1:4 to 1:5
• Unit staffed with a secretary daily and PRN techs
• Uses PD cyclers, Welch Allyn VS carts, Hoyer lifts, Broda chairs, and Alaris IV pumps
• Documentation via Meditech
• Night shift schedule from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Required to work 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week block
• Floating required over core staff
• Care for patients requiring wound, tracheostomy, ostomy, drain, and chest tube management
• Manage patients with strokes and seizures
• Patient population may require dialysis or PCA pumps, with Heparin as the only drip administered
• Post-op care includes amputations, ostomy, drains, chest tubes, oral surgeries, and wound vacs

Requirements

• Active RN license (TN or Compact)
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required, with no certifications expiring within 30 days of start
• Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg experience required
• Able to perform basic patient assessments and general care and maintenance for complex post-op and specialty cases
• No employment gaps of 90 days or more in the past 12 months
• US SSN and DOB required for consideration
• One professional reference required

Additional Information

• Perform bedside shift report and safety checks every 1-2 hours with a focus on communication and responsiveness
• Follow HAI prevention protocols including CVC and Foley monitoring with standard precautions
• Participate in fall prevention initiatives
• 100% medication scanning required, including controlled substances
• Attendance per unit policy
• Scrub colors accepted include navy, blue, white, black, gray, and ceil blue
• Join a supportive and experienced team with strong charge nurse and leadership support for smooth onboarding
• Travelers held to the same accountability standards as core staff
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility; no local candidates accepted
