As an RN in the Med Surg department, you will assess, plan, delegate, and coordinate nursing care for assigned patients throughout your scheduled shift in collaboration with other healthcare team members. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying actual and potential needs/problems through nursing assessment to facilitate an organized and prioritized plan of care.
  • Supervising and assigning patient care duties to LPNs, Nursing Assistants, and other unit staff based on acuity and proficiency.
  • Recognizing and responding to emergency and life-threatening situations appropriately.
  • Documenting assessments, plans of care, interventions, and educational needs of each patient, as well as patient/family responses to interventions.
  • Delivering patient care activities according to established standards of Care and Practice.
  • Administering medications and treatments, including IV medications, blood products, hyper-alimentation, epidural analgesia, patient-controlled analgesia, and chemotherapy.
  • Maintaining a safe patient and working environment by adhering to infection control and safety policies and procedures.
  • Receiving physician orders, documenting, following up, and evaluating patient outcomes to ensure proper execution of orders as per policy.

To qualify for this position, you must have:

  • A current state license as an RN.
  • 1-2 years of recent acute care experience.
  • CPR certification.

Patient ratios are typically 6-7:1 for Med Surg. The unit may require floating to all Med/Surg floors. Weekend hours are expected every other week at a minimum, with occasional call requirements. Orientation is every two weeks, with the next sessions on 9/23 and 10/7. Please note that candidates must be greater than 60 miles from the facility to be considered for travel positions.
