Unit Specifics:

• Number of Beds: 46
• Patient Ratios: 6:1
• Unit Staffing Description: Clinical Nurse Coordinators (charge nurse), RNs, LPNs, PCTs, Nurse Externs, Unit Clerks - staffing based on patient census
• Type of Equipment: GE Apex Pro Telemetry box, Hoyer lift, Sara Steady, Baxter IV pumps, iMobile, Alaris PCA IV pump, Welch Allen Vitals machine, Glucometer
• Documentation System: Meditech Expanse
• Scheduling Requirements: Every other weekend, three 12-hour shifts per week
• Floating Policy: May float to 3 South (post-surgical med/surg) or to PCU (to staff tele overflow)

Patient Experience Requirements: At least two years of med/surg experience.

Hospital Specifics: This 173-bed acute care facility has received numerous awards for its quality of care, including Magnet designation for nursing excellence. Accredited by The Joint Commission, the hospital is conveniently located off I-64 in Central Kentucky, approximately 50 miles from Louisville and 30 miles from Lexington. The focus is on putting Patients First, with an emphasis on patient care practices and new technology.

Certifications: Active nursing license in good standing (with compact if indicated), BLS required, ACLS preferred, current NIH (must be certified annually).

Requested Skill Set: General med/surg skills, EKG interpretation, CPAP management, Port access. Must have telemetry experience and post-Percutaneous Coronary Intervention experience. Advanced skills preferred include chest tubes, NG tubes, wound vac, drains, post-dialysis assessment skills, central lines, and blood transfusions.

Procedures Performed on Unit: Telemetry monitoring, paracentesis.

Dress Code: Navy blue or gray scrubs are required. No T-shirts, fleece jackets, or sweatshirts. Staff may wear any color or patterned scrub jacket and can wear any color or patterned long sleeve shirts under scrub tops if preferred. Note: No royal blue scrubs are permitted as they are exclusively worn by the OB/LD department for safety standards.

Unit Guidelines/Policies: Specific policies related to skill sets and procedures will be made available upon request, indicated need, and facility approval.

Awards/Recognition: Prospective candidates should be aware of the unit's involvement in Daisy Nominations, staff and hospital celebrations, and bi-weekly unit prizes for exceptional teamwork and patient care.

Additional Information: The unit utilizes GroupMe for communication, celebrating achievements and sharing information. It is home to several travelers who have extended contracts due to excellent teamwork and amazing staff. The unit is fully supported by a director and manager, as well as a clinical educator. Excellent interdisciplinary communication and collaboration with all providers are hallmarks of this unit, which continuously seeks new equipment and supplies while welcoming feedback to enhance workflow and patient care.
