Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg
Position Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) for our Med/Surg unit. This role requires a strong focus on patient care, teamwork, and effective communication to ensure the highest quality of service.
Unit Information
- Number of Beds: 46
- Patient Ratios: 6:1
- Staffing Description: Clinical Nurse Coordinators (charge nurses), RNs, LPNs, PCTs, Nurse Externs, and Unit Clerks. Staffing is based on patient census.
- Type of Equipment: GE Apex Pro Telemetry box, Hoyer lift, Sara Steady, Baxter IV pumps, iMobile, Alaris PCA IV pump, Welch Allen Vitals machine, Glucometer
- Documentation System: Meditech Expanse
Scheduling Requirements
- Every other weekend
- Three 12-hour shifts per week
Floating Policy
May float to post-surgical Med/Surg or to PCU to assist with telemetry overflow.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of two years Med/Surg experience required.
- Certifications: Active nursing license in good standing (with compact if applicable), BLS required, ACLS preferred, current NIH certification (renewed annually).
- Skills: General Med/Surg skills, EKG interpretation, CPAP management, port access.
Advanced Skills Preferred
- Experience with chest tubes, NG tubes, wound vacs, drains
- Post-dialysis assessment skills
- Involvement with central lines and blood transfusions
Procedures Performed on Unit
- Telemetry monitoring
- Paracentesis
Dress Code
Required uniform consists of navy blue or gray scrubs. Staff may wear any color or patterned scrub jacket and may wear long-sleeve shirts under scrub tops. Note: Royal blue scrubs are not permitted as this color is exclusively worn by the OB/LD department.
