Join a leading acute-care hospital as a Registered Nurse in the Med/Surg unit in Montgomery, AL. This is an exciting opportunity for first-time travelers with at least 18 months of Med/Surg experience, particularly those familiar with EPIC or Cerner systems. You will be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation, ensuring a smooth transition into your role.

The facility is a Level II Trauma Center and features a Level III NICU and a Primary Stroke Center. As a Med/Surg RN, you will work in various units, including:

  • 6 North Trauma Surgical: 23 beds, general surgery and vascular surgeries, patient ratios of 1:5-6. Skills required include trauma/surgical experience, wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, and medication administration/documentation.
  • 5 South Neuroscience: 33 beds, CVA, TBI, seizure, spinal fusion, and post-trauma patients, with patient ratios of 1:5-6. Skills include IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, colostomy/ostomy care, and surgical site care.
  • 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: 39 beds, caring for MS/Oncology patients, with a ratio of 1:6 for RNs and LPNs. Skills preferred include chemo administration (if certified), trach care, and wound care.
  • 4 South Clinical Decision Unit: 18 beds, general Med/Surg patients, with a ratio of 1:5-6. Required skills include assessment, prioritization, and various patient care techniques.
  • 3 South Orthopedics: 20 beds, orthopedic and spine patients, with a ratio of 1:5-6. Skills include PCA pumps and wound care.
  • 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: 23 beds, urology, ENT, and MedSurg patients, with a ratio of 1:5-6. Skills required include trach care and wound care.

Required certifications include BLS and NIHSS. You will have support on the unit with a CNA ratio of 1:6, and additional staff including a charge nurse, phlebotomist, and telemetry monitoring techs. Telemetry monitoring will be handled by techs, but RNs are required to interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings every four hours.

Orientation for travelers new to the facility will consist of 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours on the unit. Scheduling includes a weekend rotation of every other weekend or four weekend days per month, with holiday expectations as per policy.
