Department Overview

This position is within a MedSurg Pediatric department with a total of 17 beds, which includes 14 inpatient and 3 observation beds. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 during the day and 1:5 at night.

Qualifications

• Required Certifications: BLS, PALS
• BSN Required: No
• License Required: Yes

Role Responsibilities

• Provide care for both adult and pediatric patients, commonly managing diagnoses such as UTI, altered mental status, pneumonia, and COPD.
• Titrate drips as required, noting that titration for hypertensive/hypotensive medications is not expected. Some electrolytes and diuretics may be used intermittently.
• Coordinate with respiratory therapy primarily for the management of BiPap devices; ventilators are not used in this setting.
• Apply telemetry to patients; nurses will utilize ICU monitors to read strips.

Work Environment

The team consists of 2 nurse aides during the day and 1 at night, with a charge nurse present on each shift who also takes patient assignments. Pediatricians are on call for patient needs, rather than being in-house.

Scheduling and Orientation

• Self-scheduling for shifts; 12-hour shifts from 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM.
• Weekend coverage is required as needed, while there is no holiday obligation.
• Thorough orientation includes one day and possibly one night shift for training.

Additional Notes

• 50-mile radius rule applies; candidates may not work for any associated organizations.
• Request time off is limited to 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract, with no additional requests being approved after submission.
• The cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shifts to be canceled over a 13-week assignment.
