Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele Neuro Trauma unit requiring 2+ years of PCU/ICU experience and trach/vent skills.

Details

  • Acute care setting on a 28-bed PCU/Med Surg/Tele Neuro Trauma stepdown unit at a Level 2 trauma center
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights, dependent on acuity
  • Patient population includes strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barre, Myasthenia Gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, post-TNK/TPA, endovascular neuro specialties, AMS, dementia, and trauma ortho injuries
  • Uses Cerner EMR, currently transitioning to Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7:30a)
  • Self-scheduling model that opens 6 weeks in advance, with no guarantee of matching shifts for travel duos
  • Required to work every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
  • Holiday coverage typically includes 2-3 holidays during winter, otherwise every other holiday
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Floating required to sister Med Surg units across 6 specialties including mixed care, cardiac, general, MS ortho, and heme/onc
  • Charge nurse takes a full assignment on nights and a smaller assignment on days
  • Nurse aide ratios are 1:9 on days and 1:12 on nights
  • RT equipment on unit includes vents, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and EtCO2 monitoring
  • Central tele monitoring is located off-unit

Requirements

  • Active WI or Compact RN license required by start date
  • Current certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg, PCU, or ICU experience required, with experience in this setting within the last year
  • Drip/titration experience required for medications such as Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3% saline, and Insulin
  • Trach and vent experience strongly preferred; candidates open to training will be considered
  • 2 current professional references required: 1 from a supervisor and 1 from a peer or supervisor

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care on a specialized neuro trauma stepdown unit
  • Titrate drips per unit protocols and manage complex neuro and trauma patients
  • Unit orientation includes 1 shift of general orientation and 1 shift with a preceptor
  • Dress code allows any solid color scrubs
  • All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to submission and require facility approval to return
  • Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local for rate purposes
