Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Ortho RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring an IA or compact RN license and 1+ year of experience.

Details

  • Acute care Med Surg/Ortho unit within a Level 3 trauma facility
  • 28 beds plus 22 overflow beds with a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Patient population includes total knee/hip/shoulder replacements, COPD, diabetes, wounds, IV infusions, dementia, oncology, fractures, sepsis, pneumonia, CHF, and behavioral/addiction cases
  • RNs are not required to titrate drips
  • Charge nurse present on each shift and takes a patient assignment
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit at a 1:10 ratio
  • Tele/monitor techs located in ICU with monitors available at the main nurses station on this unit
  • EPIC EMR used for charting
  • 12-hour night shifts, self-scheduling, with shift times of 0630-1900 and 1830-0700
  • Weekend requirement of every third weekend (Friday/Saturday considered the weekend for nights)
  • Floating required to PCU and behavioral health unit
  • Unit focuses on hourly rounding and bedside shift report

Requirements

  • Active IA or Compact RN license required, pending licenses not accepted
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • BSN not required
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
  • Driver's license copy required for consideration and used to verify residence distance from facility
  • Nursys license verification required
  • Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas

Additional Information

  • Care for a primarily Caucasian, low to middle income patient population, including patients experiencing homelessness and those with mental health or addiction history
  • Candidates should be flexible, self-directed, and open to change and new learning experiences
  • First week consists of classroom orientation followed by one 12-hour shift on the unit
  • Must pass a Friday open-book pass/fail exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%, based on materials provided during orientation
  • Navy blue scrubs required for this unit
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified via driver's license
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
  • Candidates previously employed PRN through an outside staffing firm with CommonSpirit will be considered
  • RTO must be requested upfront prior to submission, as additional RTO will not be approved afterward
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
