Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neuro Tele unit position requiring NIHSS certification and prior telemetry experience.

Details

• Level 1 trauma acute care hospital setting on a 25-bed MedSurg/Tele Neuro unit
• Patient population includes stroke, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery patients, and general MedSurg overflow cases such as joint replacements, fractures, COPD, sepsis, and GI bleeds
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:5-6 with nurse aides/patient care techs at 1:10-20
• Charge nurse present each shift and takes an assignment
• Tele techs interpret strips, though RNs should maintain tele awareness
• RNs required to titrate Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips, and manage PCA pumps
• 12-hour day shifts, scheduled 0630-1900 or 1830-0700
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Weekend rotation required at least every other weekend, with additional shifts possible based on census
• Holiday coverage required for 2-3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year's
• Floating required to other medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients
• Mechanical lifts available in every other room

Requirements

• Active RN license (State or Compact/NLC) for the submitting state, currently active and not pending
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Acute care hospital experience required
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

• Manage a high volume of daily discharges and admissions while maintaining strong attendance and teamwork
• Provide culturally sensitive care to a diverse patient population including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese-speaking patients
• Strong emphasis on hourly rounding and responsiveness to patient needs
• Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
• Two days of unit-specific orientation provided
• Must pass a pass/fail open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% or contract will be terminated
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
• Travel experience preferred but strong candidates without travel experience will be considered
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
