Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg-Neuro RN for a night shift position requiring 2 years of experience and an active NC or compact RN license.

Details

• Medical Surgical Neuro unit caring for neurosurgical and neurological diagnoses
• Patient ratios of 1:5-6
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts from 18:45 to 07:15
• 36 or 48 hour weekly contracts accepted, with 13-26 week contract lengths
• Floating required
• Weekend requirement of 12-16 shifts per contract
• Uses Pyxis, SBAR, and Epic systems
• Staff may be assigned to a Storm Team/Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or disasters

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required (pending license/certs OK for consideration)
• BLS certification required; ACLS, CPI, and NIHSS certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Neuro nursing experience preferred
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Skills in CVA care, pre/post neurosurgery, cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, wound care, IV therapy, and isolation precautions
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

• Provide care for pre/post neurosurgical and neurological patients including stroke and CVA cases
• Manage medications such as Heparin and insulin, including IV insulin protocols
• Perform cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Two orientation shifts on the unit follow hospital-based orientation
• Navy scrubs required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying, with facility approval required
• Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not during a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a local rate
