Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift position on a Med/Surg Neuro unit requiring NIHSS certification and NM or compact RN license.

Details

  • Med/Surg Neuro unit within a hospital setting, 32 beds
  • Night shift, 3x12 hour shifts (18:30-7:00)
  • 36 or 48 hour options, with anything over 48 hours considered overtime
  • Nurse to patient ratio of 1:6
  • Participates in rapid response team activation
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating to like units required, with brief orientation provided
  • 6 weekend shifts required within a 6 week period
  • Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NM or Compact) required prior to start
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • CPI certification preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg nursing experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted with at least 24 months of nursing experience
  • Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line management
  • Experience with PICC line management and starting/maintaining IVs
  • Respiratory care skills including chest tube management, HFNC, nasal cannula, and oxygen administration
  • GI care experience including colostomy/ileostomy and feeding tube management
  • Neurological/psychiatric experience, including CVA care preferred
  • Medication administration experience with Heparin, Insulin, and PCA
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac
  • Experience in genitourinary/renal care including pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure
  • Surgical drain management experience for plastics patients

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to Med/Surg Neuro patients, including rapid response activation as needed
  • Work as part of a care team with brief orientation provided when floating to like units
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility, as locals are not accepted
  • Previous staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • No travel pairs or groups accepted for this position
  • RTO requests must be submitted at time of application, with a maximum of 3-4 days auto-approved and no RTO permitted during the first week of orientation
