Med Surg Float Pool Nurse

Position Description

The Med Surg Float Pool Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive patient care across multiple medical-surgical units, adapting quickly to varying patient populations and workflows. Nurses in this role are expected to work independently, demonstrate strong clinical judgment, and adhere to all hospital policies and safety standards.

Float Units Covered

The nurse will cover all inpatient medical-surgical units across multiple locations, including 9 medical-surgical units and 5 step-down units. Initial orientation will take place at the main facility, with a subsequent short orientation at another location communicated at the start.

Schedule Requirements

• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend.
• Holiday Requirements: Nurses are not scheduled to work on holidays but must be available for shifts surrounding 1-2 holidays during their contract.

Nurse-to-Patient Ratio

The standard nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 on medical-surgical units, subject to slight variations based on unit acuity and staffing needs.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of Med Surg nursing experience required.
• Certifications: BLS and NIHSS required; ACLS and TNCC preferred.
• Strong proficiency in EPIC is essential.
• Must be comfortable floating between multiple units.
• Compliance with all policies, including attendance, documentation standards, and medication safety protocols, is expected.
