Job Title: Mammography Technologist Profession: Mammography Technician Specialty: - Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience not specified License: Registered by the American Registry of Radiological Sciences or registry eligible Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification Must-Have: Mammography experience Description: Performs a variety of routine mammography related diagnostic and screening procedures in the field of radiologic and breast imaging. Prepares and administers contrast media and medications in accordance with state and federal guidelines. Performs patient assessments and provides patient care including instruction in self-breast examination. Ensures a safe and appropriate procedure environment including equipment room checks, cleanliness, accessory check, and appropriate stocking. Uses technical knowledge and ability to assist in troubleshooting work unit problems related to equipment and protocols. Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Documents incidents and advises the area supervisor of improvement opportunities for the work unit. Ensures that patient demographic and examination requests are correct. Critiques, orients, and saves all pertinent images. Transmits quality-assured images to PACS. Ensures that all images reach PACS. Documents completion and/or cancellation of all procedures in RIS, including appropriate comments. Maintains image management equipment, reporting any equipment problems to appropriate resources. Utilizes PACS system for obtaining additional study data. Evaluates patient understanding and consent of procedure, patient condition, and the patient's ability to complete the procedure. Adapts procedure plans according to patient-identified needs. Offers instruction in self-breast examination and education. Assesses the patient's physical condition and develops an action plan for performing examinations. Assesses the patient's condition to determine if additional medical personnel and/or equipment are needed and takes appropriate action. Assists patients requiring extra attention. Evaluates requisition and patient information to determine the appropriateness of procedures. Verifies patient identity. Obtains patient history relevant to examination order. Verifies pregnancy status before administering ionizing radiation. Analyzes requests and draws appropriate conclusions for examination and action plan. Reviews radiographic orders and images, correlating patient demographic information to ensure accuracy. Reviews the daily schedule and status of patients waiting for examinations. Performs and assists with radiographic procedures, including information system input and analysis of procedure outcomes. Notifies appropriate personnel regarding patient status pre-procedure, during procedure, and post-procedure. Precepts new employees and students.
