    Job Summary

    We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) for a 26-week travel assignment in Spokane, Washington.

    This position is ideal for an RN with at least 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience who is comfortable caring for both routine and high-risk obstetric patients in a fast-paced acute-care hospital environment.

    The RN will provide hands-on care throughout labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum recovery while working closely with physicians, anesthesia providers, neonatal teams, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.

    Candidates should have strong experience with high-risk L&D, fetal monitoring, antepartum care, inductions, augmentation of labor, VBAC/TOLAC, pre-eclampsia, diabetes in pregnancy, multiple gestations, and maternal emergencies.

    Key Responsibilities

    ·        Provide direct nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum recovery.

    ·        Perform ongoing maternal and fetal assessments.

    ·        Monitor fetal heart rate patterns and uterine activity.

    ·        Recognize abnormal fetal monitoring results and escalate concerns appropriately.

    ·        Manage patients in active labor.

    ·        Care for patients undergoing induction and augmentation of labor.

    ·        Provide nursing care for high-risk obstetric patients.

    ·        Care for antepartum patients and patients with pregnancy-related complications.

    ·        Support and monitor patients undergoing VBAC/TOLAC.

    ·        Care for patients with pre-eclampsia, diabetes, and multiple gestation pregnancies.

    ·        Assist physicians and providers during vaginal deliveries and obstetric procedures.

    ·        Prepare patients for cesarean delivery when required.

    ·        Respond quickly to maternal and fetal emergencies.

    ·        Administer medications, IV fluids, and other ordered treatments.

    ·        Provide education and emotional support to patients and families.

    ·        Document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient progress accurately in Epic.

    ·        Participate in shift handoffs and interdisciplinary communication.

    ·        Follow hospital policies, infection-control standards, and patient-safety protocols.

    ·        Float to appropriate units when required based on staffing and patient-care needs.

    Required Experience

    Candidates must have:

    ·        Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery RN experience

    ·        Recent acute-care hospital experience

    ·        Experience independently managing actively laboring patients

    ·        High-risk Labor & Delivery experience

    ·        Experience with electronic fetal monitoring

    ·        Antepartum care experience

    ·        Experience with induction and augmentation of labor

    ·        Experience caring for patients with pre-eclampsia

    ·        Experience caring for diabetic obstetric patients

    ·        Experience with multiple gestation pregnancies

    ·        Experience with VBAC/TOLAC

    ·        Experience recognizing and responding to maternal emergencies

    Required Licenses & Certifications

    ·        Active Registered Nurse license meeting Washington practice requirements

    ·        BLS

    ·        ACLS

    ·        NRP

    ·        AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring

    ·        FHM / Fetal Heart Monitoring certification or competency as required by the facility

    All required licenses and certifications must remain current throughout the assignment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    ·        Previous travel nursing experience

    ·        Experience working in a large acute-care hospital

    ·        Experience in a high-volume Labor & Delivery department

    ·        Experience with high-risk obstetric patients

    ·        Epic charting experience

    ·        Experience working with NICU or neonatal care teams

    ·        Strong understanding of maternal-fetal assessment and obstetric emergency response

    Key Clinical Skills

    Strong candidates should be comfortable with:

    ·        Labor and delivery nursing

    ·        Multiple gestation pregnancies

    ·        Vaginal delivery assistance

    ·        Cesarean-section preparation

    ·        Maternal emergency response

    ·        Fetal distress recognition

    ·        Immediate postpartum care

    ·        Patient and family education

    Schedule Requirements

    ·        Night Shift

    ·        7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

    ·        Four 12-hour shifts per week

    ·        48 hours per week

    ·        Some weekend shifts are required.

    ·        Holiday coverage may be required based on department needs.

    ·        Candidates must be willing to float between appropriate units.

    Work Environment

    This position is within a short-term acute-care hospital environment with trauma and pediatric trauma capabilities. The Labor & Delivery RN must be comfortable working in a fast-paced setting where patient acuity can change quickly and urgent intervention may be required.

    Ideal Candidate

    The ideal candidate is a confident and experienced Labor & Delivery RN with strong high-risk obstetric experience and excellent fetal monitoring skills.

    You should be able to manage laboring patients independently, recognize maternal or fetal deterioration, communicate effectively with providers, and respond appropriately during obstetric emergencies.
