Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Labor & Delivery (LDRP) position requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience and a Maine or compact RN license.

Details

• LDRP unit providing Antepartum, Intrapartum, and Postpartum/Couplet care with 4 Labor and 4 Postpartum beds
• Level III Nursery averaging 200 births per year
• Low risk OB patient population; high risk patients are transferred out for delivery
• Unit also receives low acuity Med/Surg surgical overflow patients (IV antibiotics, swing bed, rehab) with no infectious or telemetry patients
• Rooming-in model with no dedicated Nursery RN; RN cares for well babies
• Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:2 Laboring, 1:1 Active Labor, 1:3-4 Couplets, 1:2-3 Med/Surg
• 12-hour night shifts (7P-7A), 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation every other weekend
• No on-call requirement
• Floating to Med/Surg or ED limited to task-only assignments (no patient assignment taken)
• Charts in Cerner EMR

Requirements

• Active RN license, Maine or compact, required
• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
• First-time travelers considered only with at least 3 years of L&D experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required
• Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification required
• STABLE certification must be completed within 30 days of start
• Must be comfortable with all phases of LDRP care including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and well baby care
• Must be comfortable caring for Med/Surg overflow patients
• Experience with shoulder dystocia, epidural management, nitrous oxide, intrathecal spinal analgesia, and neonatal care in C-sections (catching babies only, not circulating)
• Experience with newborn care including vital signs, thermoregulation, hypoglycemia, bilirubin babies, and NAS babies

Additional Information

• Unit staffed with at least 2 nurses overnight, sometimes 3
• Midwife provides most patient care, with OB available on-call if needed
• Support staff includes charge nurse, phlebotomy, 24/7 RT, and 24/7 hospitalist; HUC available 4 days per week; no CNA support
• Orientation includes general hospital orientation and 1 shift on the unit
• Holiday coverage required on a rotating every-other-holiday basis
• Time off requests require manager approval
• Scrubs may be any professional color; procedural scrubs provided for OR use only

• Candidates must not have previously worked in a permanent capacity at any Northern Light Health hospital
• Permanent residence must be located 100+ miles south/southwest of the facility
