Job Summary:
Labor and Delivery Nurse in an acute care setting, working nights in a high-risk facility. This role involves supporting the Labor and Delivery (L&D) department with responsibilities including patient admission, preparation, and recovery for deliveries, as well as patient monitoring and titration of IV drips such as insulin and oxytocin. The position requires flexibility for floating within the hospital and adheres to AWHONN (Association of Womens Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) guidelines, ensuring high-quality maternal and neonatal care.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Active BLS (American Heart Association) certification, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification; 1 year of experience in labor and delivery nursing; licensed to work in the state; local candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in high-risk obstetric settings; familiarity with Corometrical Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) systems such as Cerner or Fetalink.
- Float: Will float to be a patient sitter throughout the hospital; may float to NICU if trained and comfortable.
- Additional Information:
- Unit supports high-risk pregnancies with diagnoses including preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome, placenta previa, preterm labor, and PROM.
- The unit does not follow Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) model but has Maternal-Child Unit (MCU)/Antepartum on the same floor as L&D and requires floating to both areas.
- No circulating for cesarean sections; staff admits, prepares, and manages recovery for deliveries.
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including insulin and oxytocin.
- An OB provider is in-house 24/7, with a neonatologist available if needed, and anesthesia coverage in-house 24/7.
- The unit provides hospital scrubs in purple; orientation includes 3 daysone hospital-specific, two unit-specific.
- Clinicians must have clock-in and clock-out records at the facility and have no recent previous employment with the facility within the past 6 months.
- Shift work includes every third weekend and every other holiday as needed; no standby or call requirement.
