Join a leading acute-care hospital as an RN in Labor & Delivery/Postpartum in Macon, GA. This facility is recognized for its commitment to patient care and offers a supportive environment for healthcare professionals. As a Level 1 Trauma Center and teaching hospital, you will have the opportunity to work with a dedicated team in a dynamic setting.

Unit Information:

  • Beds: 2
  • Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years Postpartum RN experience
  • First-time travelers are welcome.

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • Vaginal and C-section deliveries, with occasional overflow hysterectomies.

Patient Ratios:

  • RN: 1:3-4 couplets
  • CNA: 2-3 per shift

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) required - traveler must pass an EKG competency exam
  • ACLS
  • NRP
  • Fetal Monitoring Skills

Skills Required:

  • Strong clinical assessment and Mother Baby skills for a Level 1 Trauma Hospital
  • IV insertion and care, central line management
  • Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams

Support within the Department:

  • CNA duties include assisting with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulating patients, and hourly rounding.
  • Unit secretary available from 7a-11p; house-wide call secretary from 11p-7a.
  • Charge nurse may have patients.
  • Most units handle lab collect phlebotomy; nurses draw from CVLs.
  • PICC team available for central lines.
  • Resource nurses available for discharge and support across all units.
  • RT and Hospitalist available 24/7.
  • Telemetry monitoring/tech available in a central unit.

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Pyxis
  • Monitors: Phillips
  • Unit specific equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, PCA pain management, bladder scanners, and portable oxygen systems.

Floating: All adult med-surg/telemetry units in-house.

Orientation: 1 day orientation with educational modules and 2 days departmental training.

  • Scrub Color: L&D surgical green with scrub exchange system.
  • Parking: Free parking available around campus or paid parking in decks.
  • Unit Culture: Busy environment with a strong emphasis on teamwork.
