Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (LD RN)
General Information
Location: City, State
Beds: 3415 labor rooms, 12 antepartum, 4 OB ED, 3 OR; Postpartum: 18 Beds
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience; 2 years preferred with previous travel experience; 5+ years preferred.
- First-time travelers may be considered with solid Charge Nurse experience and 3 years of nursing experience.
Patient Types
High acuity cases, including:
- Hypertension
- Magnesium administration
- C-sections (33% rate)
- Preterm labor
- Insulin drips (rarely, following protocol)
- Vaginal deliveries
- Epidurals and inductions
- Robust antepartum care
- Prom (premature rupture of membranes)
- Multiple births
- Postpartum hemorrhage
Patient Ratios
- 1:1 active labor
- 1:2 non-active laboring
- 1:2-3 antepartum, depending on acuity
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Intermediate FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring, AWHONN)
Skills Required
- High acuity experience in labor management and delivery of high-risk OB patients.
- Ability to triage OB patients and circulate in the OR.
- Experience with cervical checks and reading/interpreting fetal monitoring strips.
- Competency in receiving and recovering normal newborns as needed.
Support on the Unit
- CNA for transport, restocking, OR assistance, and room cleanup.
- Scrub Techs are LPNs and NRP certified.
- Receptionist/HUC available.
- Phlebotomy services provided.
- Resource RN available based on staffing.
- Break Nurse scheduled 2 per shift.
- RT (Respiratory Therapy) services available 24/7.
Orientation
Orientation includes traditional CAP only, comprising hospital orientation, unit training, and independent shifts.
Specific orientation details:
- NEO training for 1 day.
- 2 days on the unit, typically during the day shift.
Scheduling
- Weekend rotation is every other weekend; variability may exist based on needs.
- Holiday expectations apply; fair distribution of holiday shifts.
- Requests for time off (RTO) should be submitted prior to contract approval.
- Available shifts may be offered as needs arise.
Shift Times
- 0700-1930 and 1900-0730 for LD RN.
- ANM shift: 1900-0700.

- Scrubs provided by the facility.
