Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a high-risk Labor & Delivery position requiring 3-5 years of high acuity experience and proficiency in circulating and newborn care.

Details

  • High risk, high volume Labor and Delivery unit with 31 rooms/beds and 4 ORs
  • Patient population includes midwifery clients, private OBs, adult recovery services supporting substance recovery, and community care clinic patients
  • Average daily census of 15 patients with 500-600 deliveries per month
  • Patient ratios of 1:1-2
  • Day shift schedule, 4x12 hours, 7:00am-7:30pm
  • Schedule posted every 6 weeks based on unit needs
  • Required to work every other weekend and holidays as needed
  • Float required to Post Partum/Antepartum and may float to sister facilities with Mother/Baby units
  • Uses Epic EMR and electronic fetal monitoring
  • Utilizes medications including Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate

Requirements

  • Active WA or compact RN license required, must be in hand at time of consideration
  • Required certifications: BLS and NRP
  • Preferred certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Advanced, AWHONN Intermediate
  • Minimum 3-5 years of RN experience in a high acuity, high pace environment required
  • 2+ years of high risk L&D experience required, with 5 years preferred
  • Must be proficient in circulating for C-sections
  • Must be proficient in providing newborn care including eyes, Vitamin K injections, thigh injections, and newborn assessments
  • Must function in the Baby Nurse role during delivery and continue newborn care until transfer to post partum
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Current supervisory references required
  • Proof of required certifications required for consideration
  • Current Nursys verification required

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive labor and delivery care including assisting with high risk and vaginal deliveries, hemorrhage/shock management, and sterile vaginal exams
  • Deliver neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR scoring, cord sample collection, ID/security banding, and neonatal resuscitation
  • Provide postpartum care for patients experiencing bladder distension, cesarean section recovery, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, and pregnancy induced hypertension
  • Support breastfeeding and lactation, foley catheter management, and fundus/lochia/perineum care
  • Administer pain management including epidural anesthesia, nitrous oxide, and opioid management
  • Perform fetal monitoring including recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
  • Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines
  • Must commit to working 3 of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
  • Time off requests must be submitted upfront and are considered case by case
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted at the same bill rate
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rate
  • Former permanent staff must wait at least 3 months before returning as a travel employee and must not currently reside within 50 miles of the facility
  • Travelers may be required to float between sister facilities within the state
