Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery

 

Facility: Meritus Medical Center
Location: Hagerstown, MD
Start Date: 09/28/2026
Duration: 20 weeks
Shift: Night 4x12-Hour (18:30 - 07:00)
Schedule: 4x12-hour shifts, weekends/holidays required
Patient Ratio: Labor: 1–2 patients; Postpartum: 3–4 couplets
Charting System: Epic
Float Required: Yes, as needed per facility policy and clinical experience
Call Requirement: Yes; typically 16–20 hours of call per 6-week schedule
Note: LDRP nurses rotate between Labor, Triage, and Mother-Baby/Postpartum care. OB surgical recovery/C-section experience highly preferred.

 

Position Overview:
Provide comprehensive nursing care in an LDRP setting, caring for antepartum, laboring, postpartum, and newborn patients. The RN must be comfortable rotating among Labor, Obstetric Triage, and Mother-Baby care while managing both routine and high-risk obstetrical patients.

Job duties:

  • Monitor maternal and fetal status using external/internal fetal monitoring and recognize abnormal fetal heart rate patterns.
  • Manage labor and delivery, including sterile vaginal examinations, Pitocin administration, and assistance with vaginal deliveries.
  • Provide postpartum and couplet care, including fundal, lochia, perineal, wound, pain, and breastfeeding assessments.
  • Assist with C-sections and provide postoperative surgical recovery care, including monitoring and management of maternal complications.
  • Perform newborn assessments, APGAR scoring, thermoregulation, identification procedures, and newborn care in the delivery room.

Requirements:
License: Active Registered Nurse license
Experience: 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience; LDRP experience required
Certifications: NRP, AWHONN, FHM, BLS
Other requirement: Epic experience required; must be comfortable with LDRP, Labor, Triage, Mother-Baby/Postpartum, and call responsibilities. COVID-19 and flu vaccines required with no exemptions.
