Description

American Traveler is hiring a Labor and Delivery RN for a night shift travel contract requiring an active CA RN license and at least 1 year of L&D experience.

Details

  • Labor and Delivery unit within a hospital setting
  • Cares for a high-risk OB and culturally diverse patient population
  • Unit has 11-15 rooms/beds with an average daily census of 15-20 patients
  • Approximately 20 patient visits per day
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (6:00 PM - 6:30 AM)
  • 26-week assignment length
  • Weekend shifts required to meet staffing needs
  • Floating required to meet facility needs, with travelers given priority to float within their scope
  • RNs circulate for cesarean sections

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required, must be in hand at submission
  • Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience required
  • Certifications required: ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, BLS, NRP
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, drawing venous blood, administration of blood and blood products, and use of infusion pumps/drips
  • Experience with amnioinfusion, assisting with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, circulating for C-sections, and recovering C-section patients
  • Experience with sterile vaginal exams
  • Experience administering medications including anticoagulation therapy, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, magnesium sulfate therapy, pitocin, and terbutaline
  • Experience with neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR scoring, ID/security banding, and use of radiant warmers
  • Experience with antepartum care including sterile speculum exams, NSTs, reflex checks, and use of EFM
  • Experience with obstetrical patient triage
  • Experience with newborn care including cord care, discharge teaching, infant identification, and newborn assessment
  • Experience with postpartum care including breastfeeding/lactation support, foley catheter insertion/management, and fundus/lochia/perineum care
  • Experience with couplet care, multiple births, and postpartum hemorrhage management
  • Experience with pain management including epidural anesthesia and PCA (IV)
  • Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and vaccine administration
  • Experience with fetal monitoring including recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns and use of external fetal monitoring
  • Two supervisory references required, covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive labor, delivery, and postpartum nursing care to a high-risk OB patient population
  • Circulate for cesarean sections as part of unit responsibilities
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • RTO requests limited to no more than 7 days and must be submitted upfront during the application process
  • Must commit to working 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
  • Travelers may be expected to float between sister facilities near the contracted location
  • Candidates must live within a 50-mile radius, though local candidates are accepted at a lower bill rate
  • Former permanent staff must wait at least 3 months before returning as a traveler and must not reside within 50 miles of the facility
  • Candidates must disclose any prior work history at a Providence facility as a permanent employee, traveler, or per-diem staff
