This on-site travel nursing opportunity is ideal for an experienced L&D Registered Nurse who is comfortable supporting patients across Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby care in a community hospital setting. La Plata is a welcoming Southern Maryland community with convenient access to outdoor recreation, local amenities, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.
Travel RN Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,180–$2,290
- Location: La Plata, Maryland

- End Date: January 18, 2027
- Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
- Schedule: 3 or 4 shifts per week; 36 or 48 hours weekly
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, approximately 2–4 weekend shifts during the contract
- Call: Not required
- Floating: Within Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby/Postpartum areas as needed
- Charting: Epic experience preferred
Labor & Delivery RN Job Requirements
- At least 1 year of recent Labor & Delivery RN experience; 2 years preferred
- Active Maryland RN license or compact RN license at the time of submission
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association
- Current NCC C-EFM certification in hand at the time of submission
- Current NRP or AAP NRP certification
- Current STABLE certification
- Current CPI certification
- Demonstrated ability to work across Labor & Delivery, Mother-Baby, and postpartum areas
- Strong communication, assessment, prioritization, and teamwork skills
- First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply
Labor & Delivery Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for antepartum, laboring, postpartum, and newborn patients
- Monitor maternal and fetal status using external and internal fetal monitoring equipment
- Recognize and respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns and obstetric emergencies
- Assist with vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, forceps and vacuum deliveries, and high-risk births
- Circulate for cesarean sections and provide immediate newborn support, including baby-catching responsibilities as assigned
- Administer and monitor oxytocin, magnesium sulfate, terbutaline, prostaglandins, epidural anesthesia, and other medications or infusions as ordered
- Perform triage assessments, sterile vaginal examinations, admission assessments, newborn assessments, and postpartum evaluations
- Provide fundus, lochia, perineal, wound, pain, and incision assessments
- Support breastfeeding and lactation education, discharge teaching, newborn safety, and car seat education
- Care for newborns typically 35 weeks gestation and older, stabilizing and preparing patients for transfer when higher-level care is needed
- Maintain accurate documentation in Epic and collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, and other members of the care team
