Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a fast-paced, high-risk maternity unit requiring at least 2 years of high-volume L&D experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Fast-paced, high-acuity Labor and Delivery / high-risk maternity unit with an obstetrical triage area
  • Cares for obstetrical patients from under 16 weeks through intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum stages
  • Facility performs over 300 births per month with an average of 20 births per 24 hours and 30-40 admits, 40 visits, and 20 rooms per day
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 2:1
  • Double labor assignments occur daily
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage procedures
  • 12-hour night shifts (18:45-07:15), 3 shifts per week
  • Every other weekend required, minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
  • Floating required as needed within the specialty high-risk maternity unit
  • No on-call requirement
  • Uses Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR charting/communication systems
  • Contract lengths from 13 to 26 weeks available

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license (pending license/certs OK for consideration)
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required; 3 years preferred
  • Experience in a large or high-volume L&D setting strongly preferred (>300 births/month)
  • BLS, AWHONN Intermediate, and NRP certifications required; AWHONN Advanced or C-EFM preferred
  • Skilled in circulating for C-sections, sterile vaginal exams, and immediate newborn care
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and neonatal/infant arrest response
  • Competent in antepartum care, OCT testing, obstetrical triage, and pain management
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy skills required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending references accepted at submission, but required by start)

Additional Information

  • Provides comprehensive intrapartum, antepartum, and postpartum nursing care on a high-risk maternity unit
  • Performs circulating duties for C-sections and manages complex, fast-paced labor assignments
  • 24-hour unit orientation provided, with weekly orientation scheduling
  • Scrubs provided (blue)
  • Must complete required online pre-start and annual training modules
  • First-time travelers considered if they have experience in a similarly high-volume L&D setting
  • Local candidates accepted within 50 miles, at a lower pay rate
  • Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying as travelers, with facility approval required
  • Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
