Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring both L&D and couplet care experience on an LDRP unit.

Details

  • LDRP unit with 8 LDRP rooms, 3 observation rooms, and 3 triage rooms (15 rooms/17 beds total)
  • Low-risk patient population; high-risk patients are stabilized and transferred as needed
  • Occasionally admits off-service female patients such as post-hysterectomy cases when census allows
  • Target ratios: L&D 1:1-2, Couplet Care 1:3 (average, may fluctuate)
  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts (18:45-07:15), 3x per week
  • 13-week contract with option for 36 hours per week
  • Weekend requirement of 8 shifts per contract
  • Call may be required during low census periods
  • Occasional floating required, though not frequent
  • Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication tools

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
  • Must have both L&D and couplet care (Mother/Baby) experience, or LDRP experience
  • Required certifications: BLS, AWHONN Intermediate, FHM, NRP, STABLE
  • Preferred certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Advanced
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and administration of blood/blood products
  • Experience circulating for C-sections and recovering patients in PACU
  • Competency in fetal monitoring including external/internal monitoring and IUPC use
  • Experience administering medications such as Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, and terbutaline
  • Skilled in postpartum and newborn care including newborn assessment, phototherapy, and discharge teaching
  • Experience with pain management including epidural and PCA use
  • Two supervisor references from within the past 2 years preferred at submission, required at start

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive care for both labor patients and couplet (mother/baby) patients on the same unit
  • Circulate for C-section deliveries and recover patients in PACU as needed
  • Support antepartum care including NSTs, OCTs, and sterile vaginal exams
  • Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, including forceps/vacuum extraction and hemorrhage management
  • Provide newborn care including APGAR scoring, cord care, and circumcision education
  • Scrubs are provided (blue)
  • Unit orientation includes hospital orientation week plus two 12-hour shifts on the unit, with mandatory daily class attendance
  • Pre-start modules (8-10 hours for acute care roles) must be completed online prior to starting and annually thereafter
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees must wait 12 months before applying and must disclose prior employment details
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted within 50 miles at a reduced rate
  • Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
