Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor and Delivery position requiring 3 years of L&D experience and both Kansas and Missouri or compact RN licensure due to potential floating.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting with 74 staffed beds
  • LDRP unit providing labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care
  • Patient ratios of 1:1 to 1:3
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
  • Weekend rotation of 4-6 weekend shifts (Sat/Sun) plus 2 Fridays per 6-week schedule
  • Holiday coverage required for 1 major holiday and 1-2 minor holidays per 6-week schedule
  • On-call requirement of 2 mandatory shifts per 6-week schedule
  • Expected to care for any patient assignment within the LDRP unit including triage, C-section circulating, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care
  • Full couplet care required
  • Regular floating may be required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • Charge RN assignments as needed per unit
  • Community-level facility with fewer than 100 births per month
  • Epic charting system required

Requirements

  • Active RN license in Kansas and Missouri, or compact license, required in hand at time of consideration due to floating requirements
  • Minimum 3 years of RN experience required
  • 2 years of recent in-specialty experience required, including a full year within the past 12 months with no employment gaps greater than 90 days
  • Required certifications: BLS and NRP
  • Preferred certifications: FHM, AWHONN Advanced, and AWHONN Intermediate
  • Community hospital experience preferred
  • Prior travel nursing experience preferred
  • Proficiency required in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and administration of blood/blood products
  • Experience required in labor and delivery management including amnioinfusion, vaginal delivery assistance, C-section circulating, forceps/vacuum extraction, and hemorrhage/shock management
  • Experience required with medications including antihypertensives, Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin, Prostaglandins, and Terbutaline
  • Experience required in newborn care including cord care, discharge teaching, metabolic screening, and thermoregulation
  • Experience required in antepartum care including NST, EFM, and obstetrical triage
  • Experience required in postpartum care including fundus/lochia/perineum care, wound assessment, and lactation support
  • Experience required managing postpartum complications including hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and multiple births
  • Experience required with epidural anesthesia, opioid pain management, and PCA use
  • Experience required in fetal monitoring including internal/external monitoring, IUPC placement, and abnormal fetal heart rate recognition
  • Experience required in post-operative GYN care
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Two professional references required, including one supervisor-level reference and one charge RN reference, both from within the past year

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care across labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum phases
  • Support high-risk and low-risk deliveries, C-sections, and antepartum patients
  • Perform newborn assessments, discharge teaching, and family education
  • Assist with surgical procedures including D&C and tubal ligation
  • Navy scrubs provided by facility
  • Free parking available
  • Home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
  • First-time travelers not accepted for this position
  • Returning staff must have a 3-month break in service if previously employed within the last 18 months
  • Permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Maximum of 2 RTO requests permitted
  • Block scheduling not accommodated
