Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor and Delivery position requiring high-risk antepartum and intrapartum skills along with a VA or compact RN license.

Details

  • >Located in a 24-bed Labor and Delivery unit providing care to low and high-risk pregnant patients from antepartum through delivery
  • Unit serves as a referring center for high-risk pregnancies within an approximate 150-mile radius
  • Accepts pregnant patients over 20 weeks gestational age
  • Unit maintains a 3-bed triage area, 2 ORs, and 2 post-anesthesia beds
  • Average of 250 deliveries per month and 350 triage patients per month
  • Staffing ratios include 1:1-2 laboring patients, 1:3-4 antepartum patients, 1:3 triage patients, 2:1 OBOR patients, and 1:1-2 OB PACU patients
  • Unit skill mix includes Clinical Team Leaders, RNs, and 4 Nursing Assistants
  • Day shift schedule of 3x12 hours, 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
  • On-call required with a variable amount, up to a maximum of 24 hours per 6-week schedule block
  • Must work one holiday per 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • Pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Experience with any electronic charting system required
  • Prior experience in high-risk antepartum and labor/delivery care required
  • Experience assisting with sterile speculum exams, NSTs, reflex checks, edema assessments, sterile vaginal exams, and obstetrical triage
  • Experience with external and internal fetal monitoring, including IUPC placement and calibration
  • Experience recognizing and treating abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
  • Experience administering antihypertensives, insulin drips, Magnesium Sulfate therapy, Pitocin, prostaglandins, and Terbutaline
  • Experience with 1:2 patient ratios

Additional Information

  • Preferred competency and experience in antepartum, intrapartum, and OBOR care, including combined or separate scrubbing/circulating competencies
  • Preferred skills include assisting with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, circulating for C-sections, forceps/vacuum extraction, and managing hemorrhage/shock situations
  • Preferred experience in postpartum care including breastfeeding/lactation support, episiotomy/incisional care, foley catheter management, and fundus/lochia/perineum care
  • Preferred experience with surgical procedures such as cervical cerclage and D&C
  • Preferred experience with pain management including epidural anesthesia and PCA use
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are not accepted; candidates residing within 100 miles of the facility (measured from driver's license address) are considered local
  • Candidates residing 50-99.9 miles from the facility may be considered for one 13-week assignment with no eligibility to extend
  • Candidates residing less than 50 miles from the facility may be considered for one 13-week assignment at a lower bill rate with no eligibility to extend
  • Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a break of at least one year before returning as a travelers
  • Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, with case-by-case exceptions reviewed by facility leadership
