Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a 13-week night shift assignment in a busy Family Birthing Center requiring active CA RN licensure and advanced fetal monitoring certification.

Details

• Acute care setting within a Family Birthing Center (L&D, Mother/Baby, LDRP)
• Unit includes 2 OBED beds, 7 LDRP beds, 4-8 overflow PP beds, 1 OR suite for C-sections, and a 2-bed NICU for newborn stabilization
• Handles 70-80 births per month plus 60-70 NST antepartum tests monthly
• Patient population includes 35+ week deliveries, possible twin deliveries, with preterm patients under 35 weeks transferred to higher level of care
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: Labor 1:2, 1:1 at delivery, Mother/Baby couplets 1:4
• Charting completed in Cerner; fetal monitoring tracked via Fetalink EFM system
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required (Fri/Sat nights, Sat/Sun days)
• Holiday coverage rotates in with core staff
• May be placed on-call/standby during scheduled shifts with 30-minute response expectation
• Required to float to all other Sacramento-area facilities
• Schedule released 4 weeks in advance
• RNs required to titrate drips, including pitocin and occasional insulin
• Charge nurse or nurse shift manager present on every shift
• No CNAs on unit; one OB Tech scheduled per shift
• OB physician in-house 24/7; anesthesia on-call with 20-minute response time when no epidurals are active
• Respiratory therapy attends every delivery and manages equipment including ventilators, CPAP, and bubble CPAP

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required at time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; 3+ years in L&D/LDRP setting preferred
• Minimum 1 year of LDRP experience required
• Must be comfortable managing NRP response at delivery
• Candidates with only postpartum experience will not be accepted; L&D-only candidates with OR circulating experience will be considered
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NRP, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring
• Must be able to catch deliveries independently
• Copy of driver's license required to validate legal name match on all documents
• Two supervisor references required: one from within the last 12 months worked and one from within the last 3 years worked

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across labor, delivery, and mother/baby recovery phases
• Collaborate with an in-house OB physician and a perinatal specialist supporting neonatal complication management
• Work alongside respiratory therapy during deliveries for newborn stabilization support
• Unit does not follow AWHONN staffing ratio guidelines
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (FT, PT, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health, within the past 12 months
• Candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• First-time travelers may be considered for this position
