Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Labor & Delivery RN with 3+ years of L&D experience and NRP certification for a fast-paced acute care unit in New York.

Details

• Acute care Level 2 trauma hospital setting on the L&D 6th Floor unit
• Unit includes 7 labor beds, 2 OR suites for C-sections, 4 triage beds, and 4 postpartum recovery beds
• Approximately 118 births per month and over 1,400 deliveries annually
• Follows AWHONN staffing ratios: Antepartum 1:1-3, Intrapartum 1:1, Post-Partum 1:1-4
• Common diagnoses include pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes with insulin drips, and magnesium sulfate administration for pre-term labor and pre-eclampsia
• RNs are required to titrate drips including Oxytocin, Magnesium, and Insulin
• At least one surgical tech per shift; no nursing aides on the unit
• OB physician in house 24/7 with pediatrician resident on call at night and midwives on staff
• Anesthesia coverage in house 24/7
• NICU located adjacent to the unit
• Uses Centricity Perinatal for EFM and Allscripts as the EMR
• 12-hour day shifts on a 7am-7pm schedule with self-scheduling coordinated by ANCCs
• Weekend requirement of 4 shifts per month or every other weekend
• Holiday coverage required
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating required to Mother/Baby and Postpartum units

Requirements

• Active NY RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required
• EFM certification through NCC or Advanced Fetal Monitoring preferred
• Minimum 3 years of L&D nursing experience required
• Must be able to circulate for C-sections
• Ability to identify basic and life-threatening cardiac rhythms
• BSN not required for this position

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care across labor, delivery, triage, and postpartum recovery areas
• Unit-specific orientation includes 3 days with a preceptor, including 1 day in Mother/Baby and potential for 1 day in triage
• Charge nurse typically does not take a patient assignment
• Travelers are expected to self-schedule and remain flexible to help fill gaps in permanent staffing
• Block scheduling is not guaranteed
• Scrub color required is royal blue
