Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a night shift position requiring prior L&D travel experience and AWHONN Intermediate certification.

Details

• Labor and Delivery unit within a short-term acute care hospital
• Facility performs 200-300 births per month
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:30)
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Uses Cerner for charting
• May float within the hospital or to an affiliate hospital nearby, including Methodist Hospital ED to provide OB-specific care alongside a primary RN
• Floating to Methodist Hospital ED requires arriving 30 minutes early on the first shift for a brief orientation

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license required, must be in hand prior to start date
• Current BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate certification required
• ACLS, AWHONN Beginner, and AWHONN fetal monitoring/C-EFM certifications preferred
• Minimum 1.5 years of L&D nursing experience required, including L&D travel experience
• Cerner charting experience required
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Skilled in high-risk delivery, fetal monitoring (external and internal), IUPC placement, and recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Experience managing high-risk conditions such as pre-eclampsia, placenta previa, preterm labor, multiple gestation, and VBAC/trial of labor
• Experience with medication administration including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, and insulin drips
• Experience with postpartum and newborn care including APGAR scoring, newborn assessment, and thermoregulation
• Two supervisor references required
• SSN and DOB required for consideration
• Nursing degree must be from a school accredited by ACEN or CCNE

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive care across antepartum, labor, delivery, and postpartum stages
• Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, including forceps/vacuum extraction and C-section recovery
• Manage fetal monitoring equipment and interpret fetal heart rate patterns
• Support newborn care immediately following delivery, including resuscitation and thermoregulation
• Provide pain management support including epidural and general anesthesia care
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO can be auto-approved; additional time requires facility approval
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local IN residents are not accepted for this position
• Former IU Health perm or PRN employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Travelers with 12 months of prior IU Health travel employment must complete a break before starting a new assignment: 3 months for out-of-state residents, 6 months for in-state residents
