Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Description

This position requires a dynamic and experienced Registered Nurse specializing in Labor and Delivery. Candidates must bring a minimum of two years of experience in a hospital setting and hold an active nursing license in Kentucky or a compact state upon application.

Unit Information

Number of Beds: 7 Labor & Delivery, 14 Mother-Baby, Level 2 NICU/ Newborn Nursery
Number of Staff: 58
Day Shift Staff: 6-8 RNs, 1 OB Tech, 1 Unit Clerk
Night Shift Staff: 5-8 RNs, 1 OB Tech, 1 Unit Clerk
Patient Ratios:
- L&D: 2:1
- Mother-Baby: 6-8:1
- NICU: 1-4:1 (depending on acuity)
Type of Equipment: Alaris pumps, Corometrics 250 series Fetal Monitor, Monica monitor, Ranger fluid warmer
EMR System: Meditech Expanse and Centricity Perinatal (CPN)

Qualifications

Required Experience

Minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery
Ability to circulate for cesarean sections

Preferred Qualifications

5 or more years of Labor and Delivery experience

Typical Procedures Performed

Vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections
Induction of labor (using Cook catheter, Cervidil, oxytocin)
Intrauterine fetal demise (IUFD) management
IV insertion and laboratory draws
Sterile vaginal exams
Assistance with epidurals and foley catheter placements

Required Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
AWHONN certification (Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses)

Dress Code

Scrubs provided for infant security.

Schedule Requirements

Every other weekend (Friday and Saturday night) is expected.
