GENERAL INFORMATION

Unit Specifics

  • Number of Beds: LDRP – 9 beds; OBED – 1 bed; NICU – 4 beds; 1 OR suite

  • Patient Ratios:

    • Active Labor: 1:1

    • Inductions: 1:1

    • C-Sections: 1:1

    • Couplet Care: 1:3

    • Newborns: 1:1 until stable

    • NICU: 1:3 for intermediate care

    • Two NICU nurses must be in the unit when there are NICU patients.

  • Unit Staffing: No unit secretaries or techs

  • Equipment: CPN central monitoring, IV pumps, infant warmers, telemedicine robot for neonatologist, bili-blankets, PCA pumps

  • Documentation System: Meditech and CPN

  • Scheduling Requirements: Full-time staff work 3 shifts per week with rotating weekends and holidays. PRN staff must complete required shifts.

  • Floating Policy: Regular staff who are scheduled and not needed on the unit are expected to float anywhere within the facility as needed. Some staff are cross-trained to float between LDRP and NICU.

  • Patient Experience Requirements: Daily rounding on all patients and safety rounding

HIRING PROFILE

Must Have

  • Labor and Delivery experience

  • Ability to labor and recover the mother

  • Ability to receive and transition the newborn, including newborn assessment

  • Experience with shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, and other potential OB emergencies preferred

Advanced Skills Needed

  • Fetal monitoring education

  • Experience with inductions, including Pitocin and Cervidil

Procedures Performed on Unit

  • C-Sections

  • Circumcisions

  • Intrauterine Monitoring

  • Vacuum-Assisted Deliveries

  • Forceps-Assisted Deliveries

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • BLS
  • AWHONN
  • ACLS
  • NRP

  • Fetal Monitoring Training

DRESS CODE

  • Pink and/or brown scrubs required per the infant security policy for the unit

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • The unit has 6 seasoned, highly experienced RNs with approximately 30 years of experience each. They are excellent resources and preceptors.

  • Several other nurses have been with the unit for 7–10 years and are also highly experienced and competent.

  • The unit functions as a strong team and staff are very willing to help each other.

  • Because this is an LDRP unit, it provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in labor, delivery, postpartum, and neonatal care.
