Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team in the Family Birthing Center. This position is crucial in providing exceptional care to patients during labor, delivery, and postpartum periods.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care in high-risk labor and delivery settings from start to finish.
• Circulate and assist in C-sections as needed.
• Monitor and assess patients' conditions throughout labor and delivery.
• Administer medications and titrate IV drips as per protocols, including Pitocin.
• Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals, including obstetricians and anesthesiologists.
• Work collaboratively with OB surgical techs and nursing staff to ensure patient safety.
• Participate in the care of couplets, with a patient ratio of 1:3-4 on the postpartum unit.
• Respond promptly to emergency situations in the labor and delivery environment.
• Participate in continuous education and training related to labor and delivery practices.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in Labor and Delivery nursing.
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN).
• Ability to circulate C-sections and effectively perform couplet care.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting EKG strips.
• Experience with high-risk patient management, including preterm labor, bleeding, and hypertension.

Schedule and Shift Information

This is a 12-hour night shift position with expectations to work every other weekend (EOW). Candidates will be required to work two of the three major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. Flexibility in scheduling and willingness to float to other units if necessary is essential.

Additional Information

• Position involves working in a high-acuity environment with a team of proficient staff.
• Scrubs will be provided; a response time of 30 minutes is expected if placed on call.
• The Public Health Nurse must feel comfortable floating to other facilities within the Sacramento region as required.
