Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities. This includes the prevention of illness and injury, and the alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses. The RN advocates in the care of individuals and families. The RN is responsible and accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development. This is in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, policies, and the Scope and Standards of Practice. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care. The RN assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care for a group of patients. The RN serves as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse, when designated by unit assignment. This includes consideration of factors related to safety, effectiveness, competency, cost, and impact. The RN educates patients and families in health promotion and disease management using available resources. The RN utilizes a working knowledge of pharmacology and safely administers medications according to policy. The RN shares responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization, including staffing, time management, and supplies. The RN complies with all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and policies. The RN actively participates in and supports the nursing governance model by engaging in improvement initiatives. The RN contributes to peer review practices and integrates nursing research and current evidence into practice. The RN provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students. Additionally, the RN will follow all organizational values and perform other duties as assigned.
