Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Intermediate Care/Telemetry unit requiring neuro stepdown experience, EPIC proficiency, and at least 2 years of relevant nursing experience.

Details

  • Neuro stepdown/IMC unit caring for a mixed neurological and medical intermediate patient population
  • Patient ratio of 1:4 with a 24-bed unit capacity
  • Night shift, 4x12 hours, 18:45-07:15
  • 36 or 48-hour weekly schedules available
  • No on-call requirements
  • Float requirement to other intermediate areas (6A, 5A PCTU, 5C Cardiac Intermediate) and critical care units (ICU/Stepdown)
  • Weekend requirement of at least 3 shifts every six weeks
  • Uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR communication systems

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license required (pending acceptable at submission)
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Neuro nursing experience strongly preferred
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (CPI preferred)
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Required skills include telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, IV insulin protocols, CBI, feeding tube care, central/PICC/peripheral line management, blood product administration, ventilator and tracheostomy care, chest tube management, ABG interpretation, wound care/wound vac, and LEVO titration
  • Neurological skillset required including craniotomy, CVA, intracranial bleeds, lumbar drains, post-TPA care, seizure disorders, spinal cord injury, and TBI care
  • TR Band and surgical drain management experience required
  • Previous travel experience required; unit does not accept first-time travelers
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to a neuro and medical intermediate patient population requiring close monitoring
  • Weekly orientation includes an 8-hour computer class plus two shifts of unit-based orientation
  • Scrubs not provided; navy blue and white combinations accepted
  • Must maintain a teamwork-oriented approach in line with facility behavioral expectations
  • Strict adherence to the unit's call-off policy is required
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
  • Contracts of 16+ weeks considered to provide coverage through the holiday season
  • Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units with separate transportation
  • Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees must wait 12 months before reapplying and must disclose prior employment details
