Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an IMC/Stepdown position requiring active IL license and telemetry/cardiac monitoring experience.

Details

  • IMC/Stepdown/PCU unit within a Level I trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital with 562 staffed beds
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (0645-1915)
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities
  • Cerner charting system used, experience preferred

Requirements

  • Active Illinois RN license required and in hand at time of consideration (no pending licenses accepted)
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Certifications required: BLS and NIHSS; ACLS preferred
  • AHA and Red Cross certifications accepted; RQI cards not accepted
  • Prior travel nurse experience required
  • Teaching hospital and Level I trauma experience preferred
  • Required experience: telemetry, neuro stepdown, and PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown settings
  • Cardiac monitoring skills required including dysrhythmia interpretation/management, on-unit telemetry monitoring, and use of rapid response teams
  • Cardiovascular skills required including care for post cardiac angiogram, post MI, pre/post cardiac cath, pre/post cardiac surgery, sheath removal, and TR band
  • IV therapy/phlebotomy skills required including port access, arterial line, central line, PICC line, and peripheral line management, and starting IVs
  • Medication management skills required including heparin protocols, PCA, procedural sedation, and management of cardiac/vasoactive drips (titration required)
  • Neurological/psychiatric case experience required including craniotomy, CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury
  • Orthopedic case experience required including ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, and total joint replacements
  • Plastic surgery case experience required including skin grafts and surgical drains
  • Respiratory skills required including ventilator care, chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy management
  • Experience with isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac required
  • Feeding tube care and management, and pre/post hemodialysis and renal failure management required
  • SSN and DOB required for consideration

  • Care for a stepdown/telemetry patient population with a 1:4 ratio
  • Scrub color: any solid color
  • Parking permit required at no cost, arranged during orientation
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Up to 5 non-holiday RTO days may be auto-approved; additional days require facility approval
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
  • Previous permanent or PRN employees of the hospital system must be separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • Travel pairs are not accepted
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
